69 Creative Kitchen Cabinet Ideas to Refresh Your Space

kitchen cabinet design ideas

Clean lines, shaker cabinets, subway tile backsplash—all of these features make a beautiful Craftsman style kitchen. This design first emerged at the end of the 19th century but you can easily put a modern spin on it and transfer this style into the 21st century. The homey, welcoming feeling this modern and effortless style creates in your home will give your kitchen new life. To achieve a sleek and modern look, mix shades of black, blue, and gray throughout the kitchen. In this kitchen, the designer used dark blue flat-front cabinets with minimal handles to complement the black appliances.

Rich Navy Blue

You can opt for a restrained Shaker-style design that will never date, or go as ornate and luxurious as you like. The Italian manufacturer is now offering a wide range of cabinets and prep stations featuring the same robust style and solidity of its celebrated range cookers. Pantries fitted to an external wall will stay relatively cool inside to provide useful ambient storage for butter, cheese and root vegetables.

Open Shelving with White Paneled Cabinets

kitchen cabinet design ideas

You’ll see varying numbers of shelves from one to four on a single wall. Most of the shelves are long and deep enough to hold plates, bowls, and kitchen utensils. If you love the idea of colored cabinets but don’t think they’ll work in your kitchen, don’t give up on the dream just yet. Instead of having all-black or navy cabinets, paint half of them in your preferred shade. The best way to do this is by painting the lower cabinet one color and then painting the wall cabinets another. While traditional cabinet design says you need this space, this isn’t necessarily true.

The installation costs of a full kitchen renovation can add up, but new kitchen cabinets can be budget friendly. Modular versions are ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets that fit together in the layout you want and the height of your kitchen’s high ceiling. If you had to cancel your beach vacation last year, you were not alone. Instead of traveling to the beach, why don't you bring vacation vibes to the heart of your home?

Updated Vintage

A nanotech coating arrests the oxidization process to prevent tarnishing and make the doors easy to clean. Not only will you be able to showcase your tableware and decorative objects, but the glass fronts also make the room feel more open and spacious, as seen in this kitchen designed by Ariene Bethea. Mix display cabinets with enclosed ones to hide any items you don't want to show off. Arts and Crafts style is a study in earth tones, geometry, and fine craftsmanship.

Modern kitchens are functional, stylish, and built for contemporary lifestyles. While no single style defines what is modern, today’s modern kitchens often have neutral colors and clean lines. They may include amenities such as kitchen islands for meal prep and casual dining; plenty of storage; and new, energy efficient appliances such as induction stovetops. This is a cost-effective and stylish option for contemporary homes. Mix and match open shelving with more traditional styles like farmhouse kitchen cabinets to keep your kitchen looking neat and tidy.

Maximize every spare inch of space

While you can see through grate doors, they're not exposing items as much as glass-front or open cabinets. The metal grates will also reflect light into the kitchen, making the space brighter. Rustic doesn't necessarily mean dark and old—this design style has been popular for some time now and we're happy to see that it's still the case. By adding lots of white and natural wood tones, you can create a rustic yet sophisticated space that gives the heart of your home character. To contrast a dark wood floor, use light-colored cabinets and countertops.

Pastel Cabinets

Current trends for kitchen cabinets range from sleek flat-front European-style cabinetry with no or minimal hardware to classic Shaker cabinetry painted in white or navy blue. A mix of closed cabinetry and open shelving feels modern and on point. Kitchen cabinet hardware in brass is a popular choice that brings warmth to modern kitchens. This deep navy color used on the kitchen island is eye-catching, making it the centerpiece of the space. The color of the island gives a beautiful contrast to the white shaker cabinets on the back wall and ties in with the dark wood accents, like the pantry door or wooden backsplash. The dark wood adds warmth to this traditional space and is easy to replicate by simply changing out your pantry door.

Incorporating Glass Doors

The combination of glass-front cabinets and open shelves make this small kitchen space feel a lot bigger than it actually is. Going for a two-toned look with the white cabinets above the gray base cabinets also makes the ceilings appear larger. If your kitchen is prone to chaos, paint your cabinets a calming color. A sky blue shade, subtle blush hue, or a muted sage gray make great paint colors for cottage kitchen cabinets.

You can also alternate knobs and handles (or pulls) to spice things up. To elevate your industrial kitchen, install matte black hardware to your cabinets. Whether the cabinets are white, navy blue, or gray, this timeless yet edgy feature is a beautiful accent you'll want to incorporate into your design. If you want to add some texture to your charming cottage kitchen, pecky cypress is your friend. This grainy wood look has a lot of character and ranges in colors from a light honey to a darker caramel color. The long and narrow cavities will make every cabinet door look like a unique feature in your kitchen.

With so many cookware, bakeware, and small appliances to store, it’s crucial to utilize every inch of space with cabinets, drawers, and shelves. Hanging pot racks, spice racks, and pullout storage can help keep countertops clutter-free. Additionally, don’t be afraid to think outside the kitchen, utilizing storage rooms or basements for infrequently used items. With these tips, you can create a functional and stylish kitchen that meets your needs. If you don't mind exposing the insides of your upper cabinets, this design trend may be perfect for you!

Most cabinets will require you to do some light sanding to help the paint adhere. Make sure you use the right kind of paint so that it’s durable and will last. If you have a modern kitchen, opt for clear glass panes that allow you to easily see the contents behind it. If this is a bit too exposed for you, then a frosted glass will give the illusion of visibility without the exposure. Oftentimes, there are many decisions to make with regard to the external appearance of the cabinets and we forget about the potential for organization.

Fresh Kitchen Cabinet Colors

Here a vertical row of cubbies stores wine bottles alongside two cabinets of shelves. Clear glass doors on all three wall cabinets expand the sense of space in a small kitchen and show off dinnerware and glassware. Distinct finishes and details are necessary to give new cabinetry an old-world feel. Here, the detailed wood cabinets compliment the vintage country feel of the rest of the space.

Opaque Glass-Front Cabinets

Now, everyday items are within easy reach, and matching baskets keep clutter to a minimum. From sleek, modern styles to charming farmhouse finishes, take inspiration from these cabinet ideas for your next kitchen refresh. While prefabricated kitchen cabinets are less expensive than custom-built cabinetry installed by a professional, they will not stand up over time, potentially costing you more in the long run. Those who have the time and skills to build their own cabinets will usually save money building their own cabinetry depending on the materials used. Below, we share our favorite kitchen cabinet ideas—from small, budget-friendly ideas to big, dramatic upgrades to help inspire your kitchen design. Marine blue cabinets topped with walnut countertops, a red cedar ceiling, and a pine subfloor give this tiny kitchen a handsome nautical vibe.

House of the Dragon Official Website for the HBO Series

house of dragon season 2 release date

Season 1 episode 9 saw Prince Aegon II – Alicent's second born and Rhaenyra’s half-brother – become Westeros' new ruler. However, while there may be two clear sides to the fight, the allegiance of the many key figures and players – in true Martin style – are most certainly blurred. If you’re struggling to remember everyone’s names, we don’t blame you. There’s a lot of characters to keep track of, but when season 2 comes to fruition, we know it’ll all come together nicely. Full spoilers follow for House of the Dragon season 1 on Max, so proceed at your own risk. Before writing for Tom's Guide, Malcolm worked as a fantasy football analyst writing for several sites and also had a brief stint working for Microsoft selling laptops, Xbox products and even the ill-fated Windows phone.

Who’s back in the House of the Dragon season 2 cast?

The second season of the series is also compared to the third to sixth seasons of Game of Thrones in execution. Plus, writer Sara Hess has teased that the new season will cover one of the most brutal storylines covered in the book A Dance of Dragons, known to fans simply as Blood and Cheese. The second season will also dramatically open up the focus to the entire ensemble cast instead of the few central characters in the first run, but still stay grounded in the story of Rhaenyra and Alicent. He added that "it is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish". Discussing the reasoning behind the shorter second season, Clare Kilner told The Hollywood Reporter that season 2 has “eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour".

The book includes all major events of Season 1 and the subsequent history, the events following the death of King Viserys I, including the ensuing civil war. And in terms of story, season 2 will pick up shortly after the events of the first season finale, which saw Rhaneyra be crowned Queen of the Seven Kingdoms following King Viserys' death. And based on those trailers, it seems like "House of the Dragon" fans will be seeing more active changes to Rhaenyra's storyline than the book's version as a result. However, the second will only feature eight episodes in total, which will be released weekly every Sunday on HBO and Max. After so many deaths in season 1, there are still a surprising number of major players returning for a second season. Among them are Rhaenyra (D'Arcy) and Daemon (Smith) and their blended family of children, Jacaerys Valeryon, Baela and Rhaena Targaryen as well as the recently-born twins Aegon and Viserys.

house of dragon season 2 release date

In April 2023, HBO confirmed that the returning cast members include Smith, Cooke, D’Arcy, Best,  Toussaint, Frankel, Mitchell, Glynn-Carney, Mizuno and Ifans are all back as series regulars for season 2. Two fiery new trailers for the upcoming season were released on Thursday, highlighting the impending war between the Black Council and the Green Council. In an introductory video, series stars Tom Glynn-Carney (King Aegon II) and Emma D'Arcy (Princess Rhaenyra) encourage viewers to "choose a side." Tom's Guide will keep you posted on all updates surrounding those "House of the Dragon" season 2 episodes, including titles, runtime and any schedule changes. And we've also got all of your intel about the various "Game of Thrones" spinoff series that are in the works, including the Dunk and Egg prequel and the Aegon the Conqueror series.

The trailer also confirmed the premiere date for the second season, which will hit HBO even earlier than we initially thought, on Sunday, June 16. And here's everything else you need to know about the release schedule of the new episodes. Before you make that difficult decision, though, you'll want to know everything we know so far about House of the Dragon's (HotD) second season. Below, we've rounded up every piece of information (and the odd rumor) we could find about the Game of Thrones (GoT) prequel series' next entry, including its launch date, cast list, numerous trailers, story synopsis, and more.

According to Variety, the Season 2 production will go unaffected by Hollywood's ongoing writers' strike as all scripts were completed before production. Executive producer Ryan Condal supposedly remained on set in a strictly non-writing production with no editing, no network notes, and no writing. Showrunner Ryan Condal has also explained that they're upping the scale of the dragons in season 2, confirming to Deadline that there are five new fire-breathers on their way. House of the Dragon writer and executive producer Sara Hess has also told The Hollywood Reporter that season 2 will examine the uncomfortable dynamic between Rhaenyra and her husband/uncle Daemon. Additionally, there will inevitably be a plethora of new characters introduced in the second season. The same can also be said for young Elliot Grihault as Prince Lucerys Velaryon, who met a bloody death in the finale.

Watch for Free

They're both tasty affairs, too, so they're well worth watching. That means one of the best Max shows' second season will debut two months earlier than Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, seemingly revealed on a January edition of the UK's Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. In the wake of Smith's apparent revelation, HBO told TechRadar it had "nothing to announce" about House of the Dragon 2's rumored release date. Perrette's confirmation puts House of the Dragon Season 2 somewhat closer than Matt Smith's original prediction, which was around August.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is a spin-off series in the popular Game of Thrones franchise, created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal. Serving as a prequel to the 2011 show, House of The Dragon draws inspiration from Martin’s 2018 book named Fire & Blood. Following the immense success of season one, its successor is set to drop later this year, with the majority of the cast returning to occupy their roles. House of the Dragon Season 1 ended with a lot of blood and death. Rhaenyra goes into premature labor upon hearing this news, and loses her daughter. The Game of Thrones prequel series is a contract production with Equity, the labor group for actors in the U.K.

house of dragon season 2 release date

As fans eagerly await the summer premiere, the rich tapestry of Westeros is set to unravel further, bringing new challenges, conflicts, and revelations to captivate audiences worldwide. Before delving into Season 2, a brief recap of the Season 1 finale highlights the bloodshed, death, and pivotal moments that set the stage for the impending civil war among the Targaryens. All the major players who survived House of the Dragon's first season will be making their return. So, expect to see more from Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, Fabien Frankel, and many more of the faces that make up House of the Dragon's ensemble cast. As for those two Lannisters, expect more from them as the series progresses, with Hall previously revealing to ET that “this is a story about the Targaryens. And the Lannisters do play a strong role in it, but not from the offset.” He asked for fans “to be patient as far as that’s concerned.

The Dance of the Dragons — a brutal civil war in Westeros that sparked the downfall of the powerful Targaryen dynasty and the power of dragons on the fictional continent — is expected to be in full swing this season following the dramatic conclusion of season 1. We're only a few months away from the return of HBO's House of the Dragon. The Game of Thrones prequel, which follows the civil war that ripped apart Westeros almost 200 years before Robert Baratheon sat on the Iron Throne, will return for Season 2 this summer. Tensions are higher than ever between the Greens and the Blacks after Season 1.

We now finally know when we can expect the premiere of House of the Dragon season 2 as two new epic trailers confirmed the premiere date for the much-loved spin-off of Game of Thrones. Indeed, it has many more episodes in the tank, with Martin telling BangCast that the series' executive team are "planning for the third season." Some pretty positive news, then. Even though it has two less episodes than season 1, HotD season 2 will also devote more screen time to he series' supporting cast, some of whom didn't get more service last time around.

HotD season 2 will also be shorter than its forebear, with just eight episodes than its predecessor's 10. Based on its many trailers (we're getting to them now, don't worry), however, it'll be as melodramatic and brutal as season 1 was. That means "House of the Dragon" season 2 will premiere on June 16. HBO releases its shows on HBO and Max on Sundays, and June 17 is a Monday.

In a blog, Martin specified that the current plan is four seasons total, with three more depicting the epic war that will shape the Westeros fans know from Game of Thrones (although it may also be an entirely different one). Martin confirmed that each season would receive 10 one-hour episodes. Once that trailer is live, we will have further coverage of the announcement, including our reaction to the trailer, which we fully expect to be an epic one.

House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on 16th June 2024 in the US, meaning it'll be available from 2am on 17th June 2024 in the UK. Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. While we wait for next season to arrive, read up on five big questions House of the Dragon season 2 needs to tackle. If you've found it hard to keep track of all the human characters in the series so far, you might face a similar problem with its winged beasts. Still, in a series based around said winged beasts, you can never have enough of them. The conflict over who has claim to – and will eventually reign on – the Iron Throne burns bright as we head into House of the Dragon season 2, too.

Ultimately, choosing between a UX internship and an apprenticeship will depend on your goals and circumstances. Apprenticeships can be an excellent option for those seeking a more structured and formal training experience and mentorship. At the same time, internships may be a better fit for those looking for hands-on experience and the opportunity to make connections in the industry. These include technical skills,  those that can help you perform work tasks, and workplace skills that help you interact with other people on the job. Graphic design competitions, such as the Adobe Design Achievement Awards or AIGA's annual competitions, provide opportunities to showcase your work, gain recognition, and land internships. Social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter and design blogs and websites are great for discovering new contests.

Look for information on company culture, past intern projects, and expected responsibilities. Research different graphic design job roles to better understand potential career paths and the skills required for different options. These internship programs typically cater to students and recent graduates with bachelor’s degrees in graphic design, visual communication, or related fields. Ideal candidates demonstrate proficiency in design principles, color theory, typography, and layout design. Additionally, they possess the strong communication and teamwork skills vital for working with clients, colleagues, and cross-functional teams.

Employers and job seekers come together at job fairs to network with industry professionals and potential team members. Find a job fair by looking for announcements from your school's career center and getting on local design organizations’ email lists. Prepare by researching the attending companies, updating your resume, and practicing your elevator pitch. While UX internships and apprenticeships may seem similar at first glance, some important differences exist. Apprenticeships are typically more structured and formal than internships, with a set curriculum and a specific timeline for completion. Apprenticeships also often provide more comprehensive training and design mentorship.

By honing these skills, you can set yourself up for success as a UX intern and be well on your way to a successful career in UX design. When sifting through internship postings and job descriptions, consider the job type (full-time or part-time) to ensure it aligns with your availability and commitments. Interns may work in various roles, such as that of a production artist, to create print and digital assets for clients. They may also be exposed to elements of digital marketing, like creating social media content, email campaigns, and other online advertising designs. Make time for regular meetings

Make the most of these events by researching the speakers and attendees, bringing your portfolio, and conversing with people who share your interests. It's hugely important to do your research on a company before you apply for an internship. As well as swotting up on clients, projects, history and the like, make a list of questions you'd ask at an interview. These questions will make sure they know your expectations - and will help you grasp theirs as well.

It’s also an opportunity to develop skills for your resume, which can make you a more marketable candidate for future jobs. But getting an internship itself isn't easy, and nor is making the most of it once you're there. Follow these top expert tips, though, and you'll soon be on your way to kickstarting your design career.

Prepare a resume

If a business has a design team, explore their work on the company website to get a better understanding of the people you'll work with. Then you need to read The Design Student Handbook, your definitive guide to breaking into the design industry. Created by the people who bring you Computer Arts, The Design Student Handbook is on sale now in UK stores and online. Once you start your internship, if you feel as though you're being exploited, say something. That may seem earth-shatteringly unfair, but it's how things are, and you need to decide what you're prepared to sacrifice to advance your career.

Have an opportunity to network.

Consider pursuing a degree in a field like:

In the seven-module course, you'll explore UX design concepts and discover how to follow the design process. Upon completion, gain a sharable Professional Certificate to include in your resume or LinkedIn profile. Typically employers will hire students pursuing a bachelor’s degree for a UX design internship. However, in some cases, companies may be more interested in UX-related experience and projects rather than education.

It also did not come with a base, which would have been helpful. We assembled the house on a piece of cardboard, which worked fine, but a base would be a nice touch.
